The flag of Greenland (Greenlandic: Erfalasorput, meaning “our flag”) consists of two equal horizontal bands of white (top) and red (bottom), with a large circle slightly offset toward the hoist. The circle is divided horizontally, with red on the upper half and white on the lower half, mirroring the background colors. The white field represents Greenland’s ice cap and snow-covered landscape, while the red symbolizes the surrounding ocean and the sun as it touches the horizon. The circular emblem evokes both the sun and an iceberg floating at sea, making the design a stylized representation of Greenland’s Arctic environment and maritime identity.

In 2026, escalating pressure from the Trump administration to pursue the annexation of Greenland led to a global surge in demand for reproductions of the Greenlandic flag. The proposal is widely regarded as unreasonable and destabilizing, particularly given Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, a fellow NATO member. In response, the flag began appearing frequently at demonstrations and on private homes across the United States, where it has been adopted by citizens as a symbol of opposition to coercive foreign policy, shocking disregard for allied sovereignty, and the normalization of threats of force against long-standing allies.
