āļø The flag of Venezuela consists of three equal horizontal bands of yellow, blue, and red, with an arc of eight white five-pointed stars centered in the blue band. Originally designed by Francisco de Miranda and officially adopted in its current form on March 12, 2006, the flagās colors and symbols reflect Venezuelaās history and independence. The yellow symbolizes wealth and the sun, the blue represents the sea that separates Venezuela from Spain, and the red signifies the blood shed for independence. The eight stars stand for the eight provinces that supported the 1811 independence movement. The national coat of arms is sometimes added in the upper hoist corner for official government use.
