The flag is charged with 50 white stars, 25 on each field, and a large, central emblem of a segmented rattlesnake coiled with the motto "JOIN OR DIE," a direct reference to the symbol of American colonial unity. According to its creators, the flag's symbolism is an intentional fusion of historical and political iconography. The design "references original Russian Communist naval symbols," which is then "merged with American 'Join or Die' symbology." This combination recontextualizes the American revolutionary symbol within a syndicalist framework, creating a unique naval jack for the fictional American faction in The Divided States universe.
