✒️ The flag of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), commonly known as the Soviet flag, was a vibrant red field charged with a gold hammer and sickle below a gold-bordered red star in the upper hoist canton. Adopted in 1923 and remaining the national flag until the dissolution of the USSR in 1991, its design was rich in communist symbolism. The red color represented the socialist revolution and the blood shed by workers, while the golden hammer symbolized the industrial workers and the sickle represented the peasantry. Together, they signified the unity of these two classes in building a communist society. The red star, a five-pointed star, symbolized the five continents of the world and the unity of the world's working people, or the five fingers of the worker's hand.
