✒️ The 1858 flag of the Russian Empire, also known as the imperial civil flag, featured three horizontal stripes of black (top), gold (middle), and white (bottom). Introduced by Emperor Alexander II, the colors were derived from the imperial coat of arms, with black symbolizing the double-headed eagle, gold representing imperial grandeur, and white reflecting purity and the patronage of Saint George. This tricolor was used primarily for civil purposes alongside the imperial standard but was eventually replaced by the white-blue-red flag, which became more closely associated with Russia’s national identity.
