✒️ The flag of the Russian Federation is a horizontal tricolor consisting of three equal bands of white (top), blue, and red. Its design is one of the oldest national flags in use, with origins dating back to the late 17th century. The official symbolism of the colors is not definitively documented, but several interpretations have endured. One popular theory assigns white to purity and peace, blue to loyalty and faith, and red to courage and strength. Another interpretation links the colors to Russia's landscape, with white representing snow, blue for the sky, and red for the blood spilled in defense of the nation. While the white-blue-red tricolor has a long history, it hasn't been Russia's sole national emblem. The Russian Empire employed a black-yellow-white tricolor for much of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Following the October Revolution, the Soviet Union adopted a red flag emblazoned with a hammer and sickle. However, the white-blue-red design reemerged as the official flag of Russia in 1991 after the dissolution of the USSR. Today, it remains a widely recognized symbol flown throughout the country.
