✒️ The national flag of the Philippines is a horizontal bicolor with equal bands of royal blue and crimson red, with a white equilateral triangle at the hoist. Centered within the triangle is a golden-yellow sun with eight primary rays, each representing one of the first eight provinces to revolt against Spanish colonial rule. At each corner of the triangle is a five-pointed golden-yellow star, symbolizing the country's three main island groups: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The design is imbued with deep symbolism: the white triangle stands for equality and fraternity; blue denotes peace, truth, and justice; and red represents patriotism and valor. Unique among national flags, the Philippine flag is flown with the red field on top in times of war, signifying a state of armed conflict. It was originally conceptualized by Emilio Aguinaldo during his exile in Hong Kong in 1897 and was first unfurled on June 12, 1898, during the declaration of Philippine independence from Spain. The flag has undergone minor modifications over the years, but its fundamental design and symbolism have remained consistent, serving as a lasting emblem of Filipino identity, unity, and struggle for sovereignty.
