✒️ The flag of the City of Perugia, capital of the region of Umbria, a landlocked region of central Italy, the region consists mainly of two river valleys surrounded by mountains and the city sits upon a hill where the two valleys connect. The main feature of the flag is the Griffin, a symbol who is very dear to the citizens of Perugia, the Griffin dates back to a time in which the city bore an Etruscan name, Pherusna and it was part of the confederation of Etruscan cities, it is infact speculated that it was the Etruscans who imported the Griffin as a symbol to italy through cultural exchange along Greek and Phoenician trade routes from the Levante. the Griffin would survive the next millennias, surviving the death and rebirth of the city, being proudly waved on a red banner against rival cities, lords and even in rebellion against the rule of the Popes, nowadays the Griffin can be found standing proudly on the palaces and being passionately waved by football fans during matches. the shade of red i used in this design is a sunset red, symbolizing the spirit of a city that stubbornly just would not die.
