✒️ The original eight-stripe Rainbow Pride Flag was designed by artist and activist Gilbert Baker in 1978 as a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride and diversity. First flown at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade, the flag featured eight horizontal stripes, each with a distinct color and meaning: hot pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for magic/art, indigo for serenity, and violet for spirit. Due to production limitations, the hot pink stripe was later removed, and further changes eventually led to the six-stripe version widely recognized today. Baker's original design remains a significant cultural artifact, representing the values and aspirations of the LGBTQ+ rights movement.
