The Battenberg style color blocks of Red and White evoke the States maritime and coastal heritage as well as its place in aviation history. The dogwood flower honors the States rich agricultural history and abundant abundant foliage and natural beauty found across the state. The Old North Star is subtly retained in the flower. The gold monogram retains and modernizes the current NC initials in the legacy flag to make this unmistakably North Carolina.
