The national flag of Lithuania is a horizontal tricolor consisting of three equal bands of yellow, green, and red. Adopted in its modern form on April 19, 1918, during the country's first period of independence, the colors possess deep symbolic meaning rooted in the Baltic nation's landscape and values. The top yellow stripe represents the sun, prosperity, and the golden fields of Lithuania; the middle green band symbolizes the country’s vast forests, flora, and the hope for freedom; and the bottom red stripe signifies the lifeblood of the nation, bravery, and the many sacrifices made for Lithuanian independence.
