✒️ The term "Kamikaze Flag" typically refers to variations of the Rising Sun Flag (Kyokujitsu-ki) often associated with Imperial Japan's military during World War II, particularly with the special attack units known as Kamikaze (divine wind). While the official national flag of Japan (Hinomaru - a red disc on a white field) was also present, the Rising Sun Flag, characterized by a red disc with sixteen red rays emanating outwards on a white background, served as the war flag of the Imperial Japanese Army and the naval ensign of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Often, these flags were personally inscribed with messages of good luck, patriotic slogans, and well wishes from family and friends for soldiers embarking on their missions, including the suicide attacks of the Kamikaze pilots, making them deeply symbolic and often somber artifacts of the era.
