✒️ During its existence as a French colonial territory and later as an autonomous republic, French Sudan primarily utilized a flag based on the French tricolor. A distinctive version used from 1958 to 1959 featured the green, yellow, and red Pan-African colors in vertical stripes, defaced with a black kanaga, a stylized human figure significant in Dogon culture. This flag served briefly as the flag of the Mali Federation, which included French Sudan and Senegal, before French Sudan gained full independence as the Republic of Mali and adopted a modified flag.
