Officially adopted on 20 December 1903 and designed by MarĂa de la Ossa de Amador, the flag symbolizes the political situation of the time, with the blue and red representing the two major political partiesâthe Conservatives and the Liberalsâwhile the white stands for peace between them. The stars further symbolize purity and honesty (blue) and authority and law (red), reflecting the ideals upon which the Republic of Panama was founded.
