In the centre of the white band is the emblem of Iran, a stylized representation of the word Allah and a symbol of various Islamic concepts. The edges of the green and red bands are inscribed with the repeated phrase "Allahu Akbar" ("God is Great") in Kufic script, appearing 22 times in total—symbolizing the date of the Islamic Revolution (22 Bahman in the Iranian calendar). The current design was adopted on 29 July 1980, following the 1979 Iranian Revolution, and reflects the country's Islamic ideology and national identity.
