✒️ Cyrus the Great, founder of the vast Achaemenid Empire (c. 550–330 BCE), is associated with a royal standard that, while not a "flag" in the modern sense, served as a crucial symbol of his authority and the Persian state. According to historical accounts, notably by the Greek historian Xenophon, this standard was a golden eagle with outstretched wings, borne aloft on a long spear-shaft. This "Golden Falcon" (Derafsh-e Shahbaz-e-Talayi in Persian) represented strength, royalty, and the divine favor believed to accompany the Achaemenid rulers. While specific colors are debated by modern scholars, the golden eagle remained a consistent and powerful emblem of the early Persian Empire under Cyrus and his successors.
