This emblem traces its origins to the heraldic symbol of the national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti, also known as Skanderbeg, who led a rebellion against the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century. The red color symbolizes bravery, strength, and valor, while the black eagle represents the sovereign state of Albania and the resilience of its people. The current design was officially adopted on November 28, 1992, though variations of the flag have been used throughout Albanian history.
