✒️ There is no single, universally recognized "Afrikaner Flag" that represents all Afrikaners, an ethnic group in Southern Africa descended primarily from Dutch, German, and French settlers. Historically, various flags have held significance for different Afrikaner groups or periods, including the flags of the former Boer Republics (the South African Republic, or Transvaal, and the Orange Free State) and the national flag of South Africa used from 1928 to 1994. The latter, known as the "Oranje, Blanje, Blou" (Orange, White, Blue), was based on the Dutch Prince's Flag and incorporated miniature flags of the United Kingdom and the two Boer Republics. While some Afrikaners view this flag as a symbol of their heritage and history, it has become deeply controversial due to its strong association with the apartheid regime. In recent years, some Afrikaner cultural organizations have proposed new designs, such as the Vryheidsvlag (Freedom Flag), to represent Afrikaner identity, often incorporating colors and elements from these historical flags.
