✒️ The 1901 Maine Flag was the official state flag of Maine from 1901 until 1909. It featured a green pine tree—an important symbol of the state—centered on a buff (tan) background, with a blue star in the upper hoist corner, symbolizing Maine’s status as the first state to join the Union after the original thirteen colonies. The flag’s design reflected Maine’s natural heritage and its nickname, "The Pine Tree State." In 1909, this design was replaced by the current state flag, which features the state coat of arms on a blue field.
